Training Workshop on Women Rigths in Faisalabad
Faisalabad, Pakistan: June 29, 2011, (PCTV Newsdesk)On 18th June 2011, a one day training workshop with the title of “Women rights and Feminism” was organized by Development organization for social transformation (DOST) at David Villa’s Faisalabad. 35 women belong to different sphere of life participated in this training. Ms. Julia Mehboob (Chairperson Dost organization), Ms. Norina Jabeen (Sociologist) and Mr. Atif Jamal were among the facilitators of the training workshop.
The hurdles and taboos were discussed in detail regarding promotion and protection of women rights. All the efforts has been made for the empowerment of women was analyzed.
Ms Julia shared the role and responsibilities of indivisibles, family and Government to promote the women rights. We should admit the status of women in the society and we will have to contribute as much as we can to eliminate all kind of discrimination, she added.
Mr. Atif Jamal shared the types of violations faced by women and girls of our society. Gender discrimination, sexual abuse, economic exploitation and harassment are common violations. Kidnap, murder and rape cases are increasing day by day. So the condition of women rights is very critical, he added.
Ms. Norina shared some obsolete customs and traditions. She pointed out that there are many discriminatory laws and policies which are the main hurdle in the way of empowerment of women. All the discriminatory laws should be repeal and all kinds of discrimination should be eliminated. Government should make sure the implementation on the ratified treaties and universally recognized women rights, she demanded.
